GPX guide

Export a GPX file from Garmin Connect

Pull the track off your Garmin activity in Connect, then drop the .gpx into Vianim to animate a downloadable 3D map video.

How it works

  1. 1

Open the activity in Garmin Connect

Sign in at connect.garmin.com (or the Connect app) and open the activity you recorded on your watch or bike computer.

  2. 2

    Export as GPX

On the website, use the gear / export control on the activity and choose Export to GPX (wording can vary slightly by Connect version). Save the .gpx file to your computer or phone.

  3. 3

    Animate in Vianim

Upload the GPX in the studio, preview the camera over 3D terrain, then export an MP4 in 16:9 or 9:16.

From Garmin track to cinematic route video

Garmin devices write rich GPS tracks. Exporting GPX gives you a portable file that works outside the Garmin ecosystem — ideal when you want a map sequence for a YouTube ride film or a vertical social cut.

Vianim reads the GPX in the browser, cleans it into a GeoJSON LineString, and renders a photorealistic flyover. You stay focused on the story of the ride or hike instead of building keyframes by hand.

If export options look different

Garmin Connect UI labels change over time. Look for Export, Download, or a gear icon on the activity detail page. Prefer GPX over FIT when your destination tool is a map animator that expects .gpx.

If Connect only offers original FIT on a given screen, check the same activity on the website — desktop Connect is usually the most complete export surface.

FAQ

Can I use a Garmin FIT file directly?
Vianim’s studio is built around GPX upload. Export GPX from Connect (or convert FIT to GPX with a trusted converter) before importing.
Does elevation from Garmin come through?
GPX may include elevation samples from the device. Vianim also drapes the route on Mapbox 3D terrain for the cinematic mesh look during preview and export.
What resolution can I export?
Free exports are short watermarked clips. Pro unlocks clean 1080p; Studio unlocks 4K and longer durations. See pricing on the homepage for current limits.
