GPX to video
Convert a GPX file into a 3D map video
Drop a .gpx track into Vianim, preview the route on 3D terrain, and export a cinematic MP4 — the straightforward path from GPS file to shareable route video.
How it works
- 1
Get a GPX file
Export from Strava (website), Garmin Connect, or Apple Watch / Fitness. Keep the standard .gpx track file — that is what the studio reads.
- 2
Preview in 3D
Upload in the browser. Coordinates are cleaned client-side, then rendered as a GeoJSON LineString over Mapbox terrain so you can judge the camera before you pay for a render.
- 3
Export MP4
Queue a cloud render and download the finished video. Choose 16:9 or 9:16 depending on whether the clip is for YouTube or vertical social.
From GPS file to MP4 without a desktop toolkit
Classic GPX animators often mean installing Java or wrestling with CLI flags. Vianim is a web studio aimed at creators who want a cinematic result: drop the file, preview the flyover, export MP4.
Parsing happens in your browser with gpxparser; only the clean route and project settings go to the backend when you save or export. Final videos are delivered as time-limited download links from private storage.
Guides for the apps you already use
If you are stuck on “how do I get the file out of my watch app?”, start with the export guides below. Strava in particular exports GPX from the website, not the phone app — and Strava’s own Flyover cannot be saved as an MP4 file.
Once you have a GPX, open the studio with a sample route to learn the camera, or sign up and convert your own track the same day.
FAQ
- How do I turn a GPX into a video?
- Export a GPX from your activity app, upload it to Vianim, preview the 3D route animation, then export an MP4. The whole flow is designed for creators who want a file they can keep and edit.
- What file types does Vianim accept?
- Vianim is built around GPX track files. Export .gpx from Strava, Garmin Connect, or Apple Fitness / Watch workflows described in our guides.
- Can I download a Strava Flyover as MP4?
- No. Strava Flyover plays and can be shared inside Strava’s product, but it is not offered as a downloadable video file. Export GPX from strava.com and convert it here if you need an MP4 you own.
- Is the video watermarked?
- Free exports are watermarked short clips for trying the pipeline. Pro and Studio unlock clean exports at higher resolution and longer durations.
- Does rendering run in my browser?
- Previewing the map is interactive in the browser. Final MP4 exports are rendered asynchronously on our cloud worker so long 3D encodes do not depend on keeping a laptop tab open.
